Trump Tariffs: Big Moves Against Canada, Mexico, China, BRICS
In today’s video, let’s follow up on Trump’s policy on tariffs. So this is going to be an update on the tariff situation regarding Canada, Mexico, China, and brics. Okay, so let’s start with this. Here’s what Trump said about using tariffs against Mexico and Canada.
So Trump posted on January 20th, as one of my many first executive orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States. So this tariff will remain in effect until such time as drugs and all illegal aliens stop the invasion of our country. Okay, so what does the US say import from Mexico? It was $480 billion worth of goods in 2023.
Main imports included vehicle parts, electrical and electronic equipment, machinery, nuclear reactors and boilers, mineral fuels and oils, optical and medical apparatus, furniture and lighting, beverages, and spirits. Now, what does the USA import from Canada? It was $430 billion worth of goods in 2023. Main imports included fuels and oil, vehicles and parts, machinery, nuclear reactors and boilers, plastics, wood and wood products, aluminum, electrical, and electronic equipment.
So, listen, this is a big deal for Trump to threaten a 25% tariff on all Mexican and Canadian imports. So we’re Talking about nearly $1 trillion of goods imported from those two countries combined. So I want to tell you how Canada and Mexico responded. Okay, so Trump says that he posts that, and then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau goes to visit Trump at Mar a Lago, and then the two, they have dinner together.
They talk about border security and trade relations. They don’t release details. They just say that their meeting was productive. That’s what both parties said.
So Trump says. I mean, he also said that the meeting was productive. And they say that they’re going to work together on immigration, drug trafficking, and just trade in general. Now, let me show you how Mexico responded to Trump, because their stories do not match up.
So according to President Elect Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to stop migration through Mexico and into the United States, effectively closing our southern border. But according to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, that is a complete lie. She said that. She never said that to Trump.
So I want to show you what Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says. I explained to President Trump Mexico’s strategy to address the migration phenomenon, respecting human rights. We reiterate that Mexico’s position is not to close borders. Now, in a separate message, Sheinbaum says that if Trump places a 25% tariff on Mexican products, then Mexico will respond with tariffs on U.S.
products. And this will basically trigger a trade War. So we’ll see what Trump does. Trump has not followed up on this miscommunication.
We’ll see how this develops. Now, when it comes to tariffs on China, I believe that new tariffs on China is a given. So here’s the current status of what Trump intends to do with China. So Trump is saying that China is bringing in a massive amount of drugs, in particular fentanyl, into the US Through Mexico.
So China says that they’re going to crack down on this and impose the death penalty if they catch any of their own, you know, doing this. But they never do. They never catch anyone. So Trump says that until they stop, we will charge an additional 10% tariff on all of their products coming into the U.S.
so, of course China’s going to retaliate. However, as of now, China has not explicitly given any details on what they intend to do. Most likely, they’re first waiting to see what Trump actually does when he gets into office on January 20. But to give you some context, in Trump’s previous term, he imposed tariffs of up to 25% on $300 billion of Chinese imports.
So when that happened, China retaliated by stopping the purchase of many American agricultural products. You know, one example was soybeans. Another example was corn. China now imports more corn from Brazil than they do from the U.S.
so since then, President Biden has kept those tariffs in place. And then now you have Trump threatening to raise the tariffs by 10% on all Chinese imports and even as high as an additional 60% on all Chinese imports. So China may be looking to initially retaliate by depriving the US of key minerals and metals for clean energy and semiconductors. So most likely, the trade situation in terms of a trade war will escalate.
And the last segment that I want to cover is Trump threatening brics with tariffs. So brics is Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. So it’s a group of countries that are looking to break away from Western dominance. So, just so you know, BRICS is growing.
In 2023, Brics added Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. So brics now represents 37% of the world’s GDP and 45% of the world’s population. So BRICS definitely cannot be ignored. Now, I want to show you this.
When brics started talking more about replacing the US Dollar in international trade, here’s how Trump responded with tariffs. We require a commitment from these countries that they will neither create a new BRICS currency or back any other currency to replace the mighty US dollar or they will face 100% tariffs and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. economy. Now, Russia says that Trump’s tariffs, you know, the threats on brics will backfire.
The Kremlin says that more countries are using their own national currencies for international trade and that using economic force to compel other countries to use the US Dollar will accelerate the trend of de dollarization. As of now, the BRICS countries have not responded with any retaliatory tariffs. So essentially, here’s what’s going on. In my previous video, I already covered Trump’s proposal to place a 10% import tax on all imports.
I already predicted that he’s not going to do that. As many people have discovered very quickly, Trump is threatening tariffs as leverage in negotiations. So some countries it’s going to work, other countries it won’t. I mean, look at the reactions to Trump’s tariff threats.
Already. Canada is willing to comply, Mexico just got left confused, China is ready to retaliate, and BRICS is simply disorganized. Now, I want to tell you this. If you have questions about tariffs, you know, basic questions, what is a tariff?
How does a tariff work? Who pays the tariff? Are tariffs inflationary? Those are very good questions, and I answered those questions in my previous video.
So please check that out. I’ll leave a link for you down below. I think that has been so helpful for many people to better understand the situation. But you’re going to see in that video that I said that Trump is definitely going to impose new tariffs, but they’re most likely going to be targeted.
So it’s interesting to see how countries are responding so differently. But here’s my recommendation to you. If you’re going to check out that video, I also encourage you to look at the comments because you’re going to see both sides of the story. You’re going to see people telling the good and the bad of tariffs.
And in the video, I also explain that there’s pros and cons, and ultimately, it’s just a simple question of do the advantages outweigh the drawbacks or vice versa? But to conclude, thank you so much for the support, please subscribe and wish you a very nice day. Take care.
